Find Your Tribe

They say that you are the sum of the people you surround yourself with most. This idea holds true in the world of fitness and health. At Everlasting Fitness, we believe in the power of community and finding your tribe.

As Seth Godin wisely puts it, “One of our most potent survival instincts is to be a part of a tribe, to contribute to and receive from a group of like-minded individuals. We are naturally drawn to leaders and their ideas, and the sense of belonging and excitement that comes with it is irresistible.”

I remember those early days of the COVID-19 quarantine when uncertainty loomed large. Gym memberships were dropping at an alarming rate. Peloton stocks were soaring, and at-home fitness programs like Beachbody were all the rage. People were transforming their garages into personal fitness sanctuaries, hinting that gyms might become obsolete. Even our Zoom classes were attracting over 20 participants per session.

But as the months rolled on, something interesting happened. While we are not completely free from the grip of the pandemic, people began returning to gyms. Many small, community-driven gyms, like Everlasting Fitness, which can carefully manage their memberships, started thriving again. People yearned to be with “their” people, whether it was at their book club, their place of worship, or their gym.

There’s an undeniable difference when you work out in person. The electric energy in the air, the controlled chaos of the gym floor, and the encouragement from friends who push you to exceed your limits. You’ve missed the smiles, the jokes, and the unwavering support of your fitness tribe.

Sure, the world outside might have its share of problems, but in here, you miss the camaraderie of that tight-knit group of individuals who are rooting for your success. Those 5:30 a.m. workouts don’t feel nearly as early when you’re surrounded by your tribe.

There’s something truly remarkable about a group of people who endure challenges and sweat together.

Tribes, of all kinds, are essential for several reasons:

  1. Life will throw its curveballs at you. You will stumble, you will falter, and you will make mistakes. During those moments, you’ll need the unwavering support of your tribe.
  2. There will be tasks you’d rather avoid (but shouldn’t). At those times, you’ll need people who believe in you more than you believe in yourself.
  3. There are people who genuinely care about your thoughts and opinions. You just need to find them.

So, don’t wait any longer. Go out there and find your fitness community – your tribe. Whether it’s at our gym or elsewhere, the power of belonging to a group of like-minded individuals is a transformative experience that can elevate your fitness journey beyond your wildest expectations.
